Australian Beef is an official partner of the 2021 Australian Olympic Team, leveraging Australian Olympian and Paralympian ambassadors to deliver the message that Australian beef is an important component of a healthy diet to communities and consumers all over the country.

In 2019–20, a record-breaking 3.8 million cattle were graded through the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) eating quality program, delivering $172 million in additional farm gate returns to MSA beef producers.

MLA is co-investing with industry to deliver an estimated $20 million/year in net benefits by 2027 to 250 northern beef enterprises through NB2. The initiative aims to increase weaning rates by 5%, decrease herd mortality rates by 1% and deliver a 10kg increase in sale weight of cattle in northern beef herds.

MLA has implemented plans to map pasture dieback and develop management strategies for producers facing the condition. It currently affects a wide range of pasture and native grass species across northern, central and south-east Queensland and northern NSW. The program of work involves producers, researchers and experts.

Bovine theileriosis is a tick-borne disease of red blood cells caused by the Theileria orientalis complex that produces a mild, persistent infection. MLA research is focused on identifying vectors involved in transmission, their prevalence and distribution, as well as interventions that can be taken to minimise stock losses.
